Chilcote’s Corporate Product Development Center

The Chilcote Company of Cleveland, Ohio, opened its new Corporate Product Development Center within their Middleboro, Massachusetts. 

facility on February 14, 2006.

The $350,000, 2,500 square foot Product Development Center (PDC) is a state-of-the-art facility where brand managers, graphic artists and prepress engineers will cooperatively design new, innovative products using the most current resources and technology available.  The center contains a showroom, meeting area, and work spaces with an extensive array of equipment to simulate the company’s production capabilities.  A computer design center and photography studio, complete with digital cameras and an advanced studio lighting system, are also contained in the new facility.

Service

The main focus of the PDC is to service Chilcote’s brands and their customers. Most of what Chilcote manufactures consists of converted paper products, from Photography related products to Promotional items. The manufacturing processes include die cutting, folding, gluing, foil stamping, printing, binding and case wrapping. To aid in the development of new products, the center has new technology and machinery to be able to produce prototypes as well as actual samples of new products that can be brought to market. Having the tools necessary to duplicate the manufacturing processes allows the developers and designers to determine - new product options with  a full spectrum of materials, processes and designs.

Showroom

The PDC showroom provides a creative meeting place with the ability to showcase existing products and company capabilities, as well as new ideas and developments. The Showroom is available for  company staff to meet with employees and representatives from the company’s various locations, as well as with other designers, artists, vendors, suppliers and customers.

Technology

Every product starts with an idea.  These ideas then need to be expressed in terms of design and engineering to work with the various production processes that are available.. The PDC includes a variety of hardware and software to accomplish high quality product design, using the latest computer and output technology.

Connected to the heart of our network by Fiber Optic cabling are numerous new computers fully loaded with the latest software. Using the fastest computers with the best in design software allows the design process to flourish by giving the artists all the tools they need to produce new products with the highest quality standards.

Output devices consist of High-End Ricoh Laser Printers and Large Format Epson Professional printers that allow for quality, true color output on various substrates. Having the flexibility to output quality printing on a variety of papers and materials allows for true color reproduction with product samples.

Mimaki Plotter and Cimex CAD

Almost every product created at the Chilcote manufacturing locations are at some point die cut to some sort of custom shape. We now have the latest technology in CAD (Computer Assisted Design) software and sample making capability with the new Mimaki Plotter and Cimex CAD. Now a sample can be created exactly as it will appear when it comes out of production.

Foil Stamping and Embossing

The latest Value-Line hot foil stamping and embossing machine was included to enable the center to do value-adding stamping and embossing designs to products.

Case Wrapping

Need an album? This machine allows for fast, accurate reproduction of quality case wrapped items, such as Photo Albums and other lined products. It also has the ability to add lining material to board and other substrates.

Photography

Professional lighting and digital camera technology has been provided to allow for quality photography of product prototypes, samples and finished designs. Having the ability to photograph new and existing products- helps to streamline our design process and improves product-related communication with our various facilities. The photography studio opens up many options for creativity throughout the company.
